Tool Time Tuesday...Applique Circles With Washers

I'm back at the hardware store again to bring you...
space
WASHERS
Not the kind to clean our clothes, the kind we sew with.
space
There is also a bonus twofer TTT at the end!
space
These little beauties come in so many sizes and thicknesses, but cost only pennies a piece. I think the largest one I have was 31 cents and some were even free, because...let me hear it ladies...I stole (borrowed) them from my husband!! Remember when you borrow anything from your hubbies, please wash the grease off first.
space
These little circles are great templates for making yo yos, especially the thicker ones, because they are easy to trace around.
space
The thinner ones make wonderful circles for applique. I will try and attempt a tutorial below, but bare with me on some of the photos...they're a little blurry.
space
Here is just a small selection of the washers I found. Isn't that smallest one the cutest thing. I think it's 1/4".

space
These next 2 (very dark) photos show the thickness. This is great for tracing.
space

space
and the thin one on the left could be for tracing or making circles for applique.
space
space
Circles for applique tutorial
space
Choose the size washer that you want your finished circle to be. Try and make it a thin one. Then pick a larger one for your template. My template is a 1/2" larger than the size I want my circle to be.
space
Place large template washer on wrong side of fabric.

Trace with marker or pencil.

Cut out circle...I know simple so far.

With matching thread that is knotted at the end (I used black so you can see it), sew a running stitch around the circle about a 1/4" from the edge. Leave the thread long. You will need this to pull up the gathers.

Place the thin washer that you want the finish size to be on the fabric.

Pull the long thread to gather the fabric around the washer. Yikes that's blurry. Sorry

Press with a hot (steam) iron. You may want to use a spray starch to really set the shape.

Let it cool for a second (it's hot metal), then carefully open up the gathers just enough to pull out the washer. Reposition the shape of the circle again. This is where the starch will help.

Set with iron again.

and here you are...a cute little circle all ready to applique on your favorite quilt!

Now for the bonus Twofer Tool Time Tuesday
space
The holder for all your washers...a shower curtain ring!!

Have a great Tuesday everyone and I'll see you in the hardware store...I'm the one with thread hanging off the back of my pant leg wearing my fancy little apron!!!

Take a Walk With Me...

It's getting warmer and that means walks with my husband. I'm a seasonal walker...where he is a year 'rounder at the YMCA. He is a teacher, so when school ends, we walk even more. We find and see such great things on our walks. Now that I have a blog, I'm bringing my camera with me to share some of our findings with you.
space.
We have some lovely old buildings in our downtown area. The little entryways to each store have beautiful tile work. I don't see tile work though, I see a quilt pattern. Here is a quick tour of some of them. Enjoy!!!
space
I am still getting to that tutorial for the car caddy. I have to make another one and take pictures of it. However, it's been a little crazy here. My dad, who lives with us, was in the hospital (ICU). He's home now and recovering. His arteries to one of his legs was completely blocked again, so they needed to operate on it twice, 2 days in a row. He is 85 and is so much better now, no pain in his leg at all!.
space
Well, I'm off for a loooong drive to drop off the financial aid package for my daughter's college. Boy do they make you jump through hoops with the paperwork. Then I'm off to work after that.
space
Hope everyone has a wonderful day and see you tomorrow for TTT,
~Karen~

Friends on Friday...

First off, I want to say woo hoo for sunshine today. We've had rain here for over a week!!
space
Today is Friday and that means Friends on Friday...here I like to post all of the wonderful ideas that my super blogging friends have for other things to do with the Tool Time Tuesday posts.
space
First up...the sewing car caddy post.
space
Kaaren from The Painted Quilt thought to hang it on the arm of her lawn chair while stitching on her deck or patio. What a great idea!!! I took a picture of mine hanging from a rocker on our porch. The arm is a little wide, but it worked towards the back. Thanks Kaaren!

This super idea came from Christine from Home with Christine. She wants to use it for an art carrier for her children in the back seat. Below I've just added some crayons and colored pencils. In the can, just add blank paper or cut out coloring book pages. I love this idea!!! Thanks Christine!
space
space
The last Tool Time Tuesday post was for the cd case.
space
Dotti from Apples, Quilts and More said she wanted to use it to organize school supplies. Love it!! I just added some things from our office just to show that you can have a mini office in your car or purse...just added post it notes, index cards and all the other goodies.

These super ladies have inspired me to keep on thinking. How about a little case for the car or your purse for your hexagons and Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts.
space
scissors , needles and thread necklace and a flower in progress.

Hexies waiting to be sewn into flowers.

hexie papers and some waiting to be whip stitched.

Then how about a little first aid kit for the car!!

space
you can add your own cold medicine or Tums etc...

The theme of all my Tool Time Tuesday post is to think outside the box when shopping in different stores. That's what Kathie from Inspired by Antique Quilts did when she was in the automotive section. She buys detailing tape that they use to paint on the thin lines on the car. It comes in 1/4" size (other sizes too). She uses it for hand quilting!!! Sooo much cheaper than in the quilt shop. Super, super smart...another great one.
space
space
I want to thank everyone who reads my blog, leaves me such nice comments and for all the inspiration from each and every one of you. I just love blogging and the friends I've made along the way.
space
Have a great weekend and hopefully I can get that tutorial for the car caddy together...it's been crazy here.

8 easy ways to maintain eye health

Keep your eye health, easy ways to maintain eye health, at this post i wanna to post some thing that explain about the main the eye health. keep our eye health.

Do your eyes feel tired and sore after working all day? Modern lifestyle causes stress on the body and eyes among us suffer the most.

But certainly not be like this. Learn how easily you can do to eye health and your eyes will feel and look better in just a few days.

1. Check the eyes every 12 month
Vision problem that will not grow more severe, and wearing contact lenses or glasses are no longer suitable for you can cause vision problems and headaches.

2. In summer, use glasses
UV rays can create serious damage to the eye. A good optician can help prevent this. When buying glasses, make sure that you can reflect at least 98% UV radiation.

3. Eat a good nutrition for you and your eyes
Recent studies indicate that this group of vitamins and antioxidants can prevent, or at least slow the growth and degeneration makular cataracts. Nutrition is good for the body is also good for the eyes.

4. If you read or work computer use, make sure the light right
Working with minimal light can cause eye fatigue, but the light is too bright is not good. The light works best if the computer is from the soft starlight table lamp from the side. Reduce the light level (brightness) monitor. So the color is not too sharp, but the eyes will be more comfortable.

5. Rest your eyes
Almost all people feel their eyes is not so comfortable after sitting all day in front of a computer screen. This is due 25% eyes blink less than normal, so that causes dry eyes. One thing you can do is close your eyes and count to 5 before opening it again. This is another turn of the screen and focus on an object far away, as often as possible.

6. Find a contact lens with good quality
Not all contact lenses the same. It's a safe for your eyes, and there is also a risk of eye damage. Know what the industry offered a modern contact lenses will help to make a wise choice, not simply follow what the doctor said.

7. If you wear contact lenses, keep the good
Contact lenses are not making so, but you also can not ignore its cleanliness. Each time you use or will deliver your contact lenses, wash. You must also change its fluid, when you put in place when you sleep at night.

8. Wear contact lenses according to the recommended schedule
There are people to save by using contact lenses longer than intended. This is not a good thing. Although kulitas lensanya not be reduced, protein mass can obscure your vision. Another thing that must be considered is, the longer you wear your contact lenses, the higher your risk of eye infection.

yups, so we treated eyes, keep our eye. if you get something with your eyes, immediately consult a physician.

Smiling can do wonders to your skin....read further to know why!

A smile can be contagious for sure but did you know what it can do for your face in terms of age? Well,on a philosophical note a smile can light up your face but on a serious and scientific note your facial expressions affect your skin creases.

Face is the only part of the body where the muscle attaches its one end on the bone and the other on the loose tissue below the skin.Rest of the muscles of the body attach both ends on bone. This implies firstly that your facial muscles can be firmed up by the kind of expressions you use most of the day.If you frown or remain sad most of the day,it firms up your facial muscle in that way.

If you notice carefully you will find a lot of people around who have a constantly smiling face and appear to be smiling even when they are not.On the other hand some carry a constantly tensed look and and have forehead lines.when you smile it not only relieves tension on your mind, improves the facial expression.firms up the smiling muscles and of course makes everyone around feel happy too!

Tool Time Tuesday...CD Case Organizer

Not just for music or movies anymore!
space
I purchased this cd organizer at Walmart in the clearance rack for $2.00. It measures about 6" square and has 12 double side pages to hold 24 Cds. Music Cds and movie DVDs...not for quilters. I use mine to hold all my templates and applique patterns. You can purchase these in different sizes. They come in larger booklets with pages that have 8 slots per page. They also come in a little duffle bag style where the cd holders are standing up and you can just flip through them. The style all depends on how many templates or patterns you have.
space
I don't do much applique work, but I just love all the beautiful pieces, like Tisket-A-Tasket blocks, that I have seen on so many wonderful blogs. When you cut out all the template pieces, you can place all the patterns from one design into one sleeve of your cd holder and write a label for what the pattern is or what magazine it came from. One small cd holder case can hold all the BOM patterns for one quilt...keeping them all together and organized.
space
The smaller holders are also great to take with you on a retreat or to your guild meetings if you are planning on doing a little project. The case is small enough to carry anywhere and protects everything in the zippered case.
space
Below are a few pictures of my case...I'm thinking I have to upgrade to another one, because I only have 2 empty pages left!
space
Hope you enjoyed this quick TTT. We're finally back to normal here, I think. Just need to put the suit cases back in the attic. For next week's TTT, I'm digging into my Home Depot bag again...so don't forget to check back in.
space
Have a great day,
~Karen

Healthy way of life

Health disturbances can appear at any time, especially if we are unmindful of the symptoms and causes. without We realize lifestyle and eating pattern that is not healthy is the main cause of factors. Although there are other causes that can not be avoided, such as genetic factors, environmental pollution.
To stay healthy, there are many ways to get it. One of them, follow the 5 steps and get the quality of life better:

1. Clean air, the lungs are healthy
To avoid interference from respiratory, breathe in the air, a clean and healthy. How? Need not be bothered looking for mountain air, the morning air was very good for your lungs. Besides avoiding the tar blackened the air, such as cigarette smoke, dust, smoke or vehicle. Clean the house and work the room regularly, including furniture, fan and AC.

2. White water is the best of any drink.
Often drink white water until 8-10 glasses of a day. This habit will help maintain kidney function and smooth channel urine. Strive to drink warm water at night and cool water (not ice water) in the afternoon. Also add a little orange extract or lemon lime. In addition to good to refresh ourselves, with drink this can help remove the toxin from the body.

3. Consumption of nutritious and balanced menu
Choose a menu with an adequate nutrition, balanced, and varied. consume lots of green vegetables and fruits that contain lots of fiber and vitamin fiber body is needed. As much as possible avoid junk food and processed food, and reduce consumption of salt and sugar. One more, do not forget breakfast! Because breakfast can support our activities throughout the day.

4. Balance between work, exercise and rest.
Working hard without a break there is no there for you. Often rest regularly 7-8 hours of at night, and often do not wait up or sleep the night too. Try to use leisure time to exercise lightly or just relax musculature joint.
With exercise 2 - 3 times a week, for 30 - 45 minutes, enough to make the body shape and the prima stamina.

5. Control of brain
Brain, as well as our bodies, he also needs a rest. Do not give too much burden, because the brain also has a limited memory. Do in leisure time activities that make the brain work more relaxed, eg make a fun hobby, like painting, reading the latest novel or just listening to music.

The role of vitamin A to prevent blindness

vitamin A deficiency is very effect for health, particularly eye health. our eyes very need vitamin A for health. here we see what becomes the role of vitamin A in preventing blindness.

1. Interference in the nerve of a child (dim twilight) when symptoms have already started the dark invisible children blindly.
2. Interference on the outside of the ball marks on the coating of white children look dull, dry and does not scintillate.
Children who lack vitamin A visible condition of the body, that body weight does not necessarily dull hair, and skin also looks dim.

Sources of vitamin A have two:
1. Animal that has a high vitamin A content found in the liver, eggs, chicken meat. while the measure has a low vitamin A is in the susu fresh shrimp.
2. Nabati womb of high vitamin A found in the carrot, spinach, kangkung, papaya leaves, cassava leaves, sausage, pumpkin, sweet potato and red. who have low vitamin A contents in the bean, corn, eggplant, melon, banana, orange, star fruit. Doctor Ramzi Amin said the SPM green vegetable the higher the vitamin A contents.

Whoever does not want the beloved heart broken in the eyes, for the prevention of Feed should be given adequate nutrition and the application of the pattern of life is good for example when watching TV and reading. While for the treatment doctors recommend that if Ramzi Amin experience disruption in the immediate treatment to specialist eye doctors.

Tool Time Tuesday...Car Caddy

This weeks TTT is from the automotive section again and your recycling bin. I made this in honor of our trip to Disney. I am actually typing this Friday morning at 2:00 am. Just finished all the packing and last minutes things and wanted to have this post all ready for Tuesday. Miss a TTT...never!
space
This little cutie is great for anyone who likes to do hand work in the car. It will hold all the essentials and more. I just finished sewing this Thursday night before we left so I could use it on our trip. When I get back, I will put together a tutorial for you. (Edit: I added the link to the tutorial at the end) For now here are a few pictures I took before we left. ( I even used our suitcase to display it on!)
space
space
You will need one plastic cup holder. This is the kind that hooks onto the door next to the window. I saw a 4 pack of these in the Walmart auto section for $1.98. You will also need one metal can that fits your particular holder. (Mine is a pineapple can!)

space
You could have a taller can if you'd like, but this is what fit my holder.
space

Once you have the tutorial, you can sew one of these. Isn't she sweet? This one is made with the cutest fabric. The blue and red is "Fun with Feedsacks" by Glenna Hailey from P&B Textiles and the red is from RJR "The Roaring 20's and Beyond" by Betsey Telford.
space

I sewed little individual pockets to hold seam ripper, scissors, glasses, ruler, pens or pencils.

The inside of the can is lined around the sides and it will hold your spools of thread. If you're wearing your thread necklace from a previous TTT, this inside space will hold a bottle of water. I'm going to use this part for all my hexagons that I will be sewing on the way down. Don't forget the pincushion that's tied to the hook for all your pins and needles!!!

and now, this is how it looks in the car. It's already for me sew the time away.

I hope you enjoyed this edition of TTT. I really love trying to come up with fun things to make and share. What I really love are friends like you who leave such nice comments and encouraging words. Thanks a million!
space
Here's the link to the tutorial I put together. Click HERE and it will bring you right to it.

Talk to you soon,
~Karen~
