A Window of Opportunity...Wall Calendar

I've had these window frames for over 20 years from my great uncle. They have been different colors and have served different functions like mirrors, flower boxes etc, but for the last 10 years or so they have been my organizers in our family office. The family office was our dining room, but we turned it into the computer room/office for all to use.
space
The window on the left has cork board in each pane to keep important papers or school flyers close at hand. The window on the right is our 6 month calendar. I was in the process of changing the months and thought I would share how I did it in case you have a window frame you'd like to transform.
space
The window on the right has cardboard in each pane so I can tack the calendars to it.
space
space
This is what it looks like with the calendars in it.
space

space
I don't buy calendars...I just print them from a free website.
space

Just go to this site. On the right side under Calendars, I click on "monthly calendars". Then from there, I use the Holiday version, because it already lists each holiday in the month. Click around though, because there are different styles and sizes for every purpose. Some are vertical or horizontal. Mine are vertical.

space

It's a great site...I have no affiliation to it, just wanted to share!

Print off your desired calendar.

My window panes are longer than the standard 8"x11" piece of paper, so I print the title of each month on a separate piece of paper in a large font.

You can just tack them up with thumb tacks, but why not have something cute up there each month.

Like these cute little buttons that I just hot glued to flat headed push pins. The buttons are from my friend Carol who I met through blogging. Hi Carol!! She sent me 2 big boxes of buttons and thread that she received from a friend. I'm amazed every day by the kindness of strangers. She just sent me the buttons knowing I would find a project for them. I have others in the making...it's just taking me longer than I thought to get them done. You know how that goes. One big long list of "To Dos". Thanks again Carol for all the goodies.

To put the calendars together, I just tack each monthly title to each pane...

with these adorable button pins.

Here's the window partially set up.

Now take your printed calendars...

I cut off the smaller monthly name on the top and some small print on the bottom. Sorry about this upside down picture.

I use double side tape on the back top side of each calendar.

I place each calendar on the first printed sheet so it fills in the space at the bottom to hide the cardboard.

Now you're all set to fill it in with your family's crazy schedule. If you're like me...it gets filled in pretty quickly.

This little close up is the detail in the old window. Great to find these in flea markets, junk shops, yard sales, thrifting...

Love it!

So easy to have 6 months at a glance!

Don't miss this "Window of Opportunity" for organization. Go forth...recycle, paint and organize.

Have a great day,

~Karen~

Kim Kardashian vs. Khloé Kardashian Odom

Stars can be criticized for wearing the same clothes, but we think it's very chic for Kim Kardashian and Khloé Kardashian Odom to share closets.

This Kardashian for Bebe wrap dress beautifully shows off both girls' curves. We love how Kim added her own spin with a statement belt and edgy black booties.

Younger sister Khloé's leopard wedges would have been fine, but the gold Louis Vuitton kills the look. That bag is so 2006...remember when back-in-the-day besties Kim and Paris Hilton toted matching ones all over Australia?
So Kim def looks better here. Do you agree?

What should be avoided in order to smooth skin

Health food nutrition - Food intake affects the health and appearance of the skin to keep it looking beautiful. In one of the articles Kompas.com never mentioned about food ingredients that need to be consumed to make the skin stay healthy. Here are the foods (and drinks) that should be avoided if you want to maximize pretty healthy skin.

Salty snacks

Murad, renowned dermatologist, states that sodium intake can suck the moisture and makes skin dry. This is what causes eye bags, swollen eyes, and swollen. Avoid salty snacks to still look beautiful.

Alcohol
Just like sodium, alcohol makes the skin dry. Alcohol makes the top layer of blood vessels, which produce some form of inflammation of skin damage.

Fried foods

When heated to high temperatures, vegetable oils such as those used in most fast food restaurants could lead to 4-hydroxy-trans-2-nonenal which is also called HNE. This can cause dead skin cells. Dead skin can cause dry skin, chapped, and dull.

Refined carbohydrates

This means candy, cakes, and other processed foods. Such foods full of sugar and white flour that makes the supply of androgens, hormones in the body's production of oil, rising. A study showed that low-sugar diet participants who do not have a lot of acne than those who consume more processed food. Worse, these carbohydrates can cause glycation, collagen and elastin that make it easier to absorb and damaged by free radicals.

Malnutrition Nutrition In Children

Health food nutrition - NUTRITION is a very important element in the body. With good nutrition, the body will be fresh and we can perform the activity properly. Nutrition must be fulfilled exactly since was a child, because in addition to essential nutrients for body growth, is also essential for brain development. To that end, parents need to understand better the child's nutritional needs so that children do not experience malnutrition. In addition, parents also need to know what and how it was malnourished.

Signs of malnutrition
According to Dr. Sri Kurniati MS, Doctor of Medical Nutrition Expert Child and Maternity Hospital Harapan Kita, malnutrition in children are divided into three.

The first, referred to as Protein Energy Malnutrition Light. At this stage, Sri explains that there are no specific signs that can be seen clearly. Only the child's weight reached only 80 percent of normal weight.

While the second, known as Protein Energy Malnutrition Moderate. At this stage, the child's weight reached only 70 percent of normal weight.

In addition, there are signs that can be seen clearly is the face becomes pale, and hair color changed a little red.

Third, known as Protein Energy Malnutrition Weight. This section is divided again into two, are very few, usually called Marasmus. Marasmus is a sign on the child's weight reached only 60 percent or less of normal weight. Apart from marasmus, another so-called Kwashiorkor. 10 Ways To Get The Right Man For You

1. Choosing the obvious ones to avoid: addicts, child abusers, chronic gamblers, felons, “boys”, etc. If you always fall in love with the wrong type of men, you should get help. Please seek it. You need to fall in love with the right person

2. Going by sexual attraction alone. That’s a choice your reptilian brain is making which is to say not a choice at all. “Choosing” means weighing alternatives and being rational. Never in life do you want your reptilian brain in charge. It doesn’t “think.”
3. Choosing based on external qualities alone. It’s nice if he’s a hot hunk, but not if he's just another pretty face. Are you choosing a 37' powerboat instead of a man who owns one? His face will change. His toys may disappear. It's "for better or for worse," not "for as long as he can buy me Gucci handbags.” Seek TRUE love!
4. Rushing. Date him long enough to go through actual situations that test what you can't see and touch -- his values, priorities, manners, morals, and interests.
At first you’ll go to hockey games, WWF matches and beer drinking just to be with him, right? Do you really see yourself doing these things every weekend for the rest of your life?
On the same point, is he being nice to your kids just to get to you? Is he willing to go shopping with you and to the museums? Only time will tell.
5. Rushing. Give it time so he can sort out his feelings. Men tend to go from desire to action without thinking .This is why we see them make such poor choices in women, and then do the same thing again. You may be sure, but is he? Follow your heart AND your brain.
6. Rushing. You need time because even a workaholic will give you attention 24/7 at first. Only 6 months down the line will you discover that once he’s “got you,” and knows you love him, so he neglects you. Work comes first, then his golf. He’ll call you when it’s your turn.
7. Not checking out his attitude toward women.
How does he treat his mother? Your friends? His sister?
8. Trusting only your intellect. This means gathering facts, reading experts, not checking in with your intuition, and listening to advice blindly without looking into your heart as well.

Let’s say your best friend, who’s very perceptive, tells you he’s a womanizer. I’d give that some weight, but I’d check it out myself. It won't be hard. Give it time, stay awake and you’ll see.

Another example – You made the list of what you wanted. There he is in front of you, lacking 3 of the 6 items on your list, but you adore him. You really click. That’s a good time to go back and rethink your list. You’re always entitled to change your mind.

9. Trusting only your feelings. Come now, do you really think you can make a life with someone who is (admittedly) darling and sexy BUT hates your religion, has different morals and ethics than you do, has already alienated your father, wants kids while you don’t, refuses to “let” you work, and has already ordered you to get rid of your cat? This is like allowing yourself to fall in love with a married man. Just go stick an ice pick in your eyeball instead.
10. Misunderstanding the nature of feelings. Our emotions give us information. They don’t demand behavior. When I was a teenager I was dating a creep. My father told me I had to quit seeing him. “But I love him,” I said. Said he: “Love someone else.” No, you can’t manufacture feelings, but neither do they have to be acted upon. They can be taken “under advisement” and thought through.

The Best Workout For Women

For many women, the biggest barrier to fitness is finding an activity that you can stick to and do easily. If you regularly run, bike or do aerobics, you may not think of walking as a workout. But think again. Regular walking to and from work, or at lunchtime, can contribute to your overall women workout fitness level by getting you up and away from your desk, even for 15 minutes or so, and, even if it’s walking down the street to Starbucks.

In terms of convenience, walking may be the best women’s workout, there is. If you are new to fitness, walking is a way to introduce your body to activity. If you are already active, walking during the day helps recovery from your tough workouts by promoting blood flow and reducing the effects of delayed-onset muscle soreness so you are less stiff when it’s time for your next tough workout.
And try this butt-toning tip as a bonus while walking: Keep the heel of your back foot on the ground as long as possible, and when you lift your heel, try to roll across your entire foot and push off with your toes. If you can manage this, you will feel your glutei muscles working more with each step. Of course this is tricky if you are at work and wearing heels, but tries it when you are walking and wearing workout gear, and you will feel the burn.

If you have never tried yoga, find a beginner class and check it out. It is one of the best workouts for women. You may get hooked. Yoga is a great part of any women workout fitness plan because it is low-impact and does not put pressure on the joints. Also, the deep stretching you do in yoga helps combat delayed onset muscle soreness after tough workouts. Yoga can be especially helpful if you have joint problems, or if you are recovering from an injury or trying to get back in shape after pregnancy.

Tool Time Tuesday...Needle Keep iTunes Card

Old, used up, empty gift cards. We have so many of them around our house, especially after the holidays. Our 2 teenage daughters always receive gift cards to different stores and itunes...lots of itunes. Such an easy gift to buy for them and they love them!!
space
Well, I started saving the old ones. Of course I did, adding more to my ever growing stash of crap...garbage that turns into gold though! I've been thinking long and hard about this one and have come up with a few ideas. I'm hoping to post a couple of them throughout the week, but the first idea is a needle keep and it's for today's TTT.
space
The cards come in different sizes and shapes, so this tutorial is just an example. You need to measure your gift card and then go from there. For this project I used 2 of the cards on the left.

space
These little ones measure 3 inches long by...
space

2 inches wide.

space
For the needle keep, you will need 2 cards of the same size. To cut the fabric needed, I measured the length of the 2 cards and added 1 inch and the width I added 3/4 of an inch. To break that down for you, each of my cards is 3 inches long x 2 cards= 6" plus the extra inch. The width of my cards are 2 inches, so I added 3/4". The final measurement for the fabric is 7" x 2 3/4"

You will need 2 cards, 2 pieces of fabric cut to your measurements and 2 pieces of matching ribbon. I cut the ribbon about 7" long and then trimmed it later.

The first step is to fold one of the pieces of fabric length wise and just finger crease the fabric to find the center.

You only need to find the center of one piece of fabric.

Pin the 2 strips of ribbon over the center marks.

Ball up the ribbon and pin it to the middle so you don't catch it in your seam allowance.

Now take your second piece of fabric and with right sides together, pin it over the piece with the ribbons. Leave an opening big enough for the cards to fit through.

Sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance, pivoting at the corners and back stitching at the beginning and the end.

Clip the corners.

Turn fabric right sides out and unpin the ribbons. There should be one piece of ribbon sticking out of each of the short ends. Press the seams, but don't let the iron touch your ribbon (don't ask)

Now insert one of the cards into the left side of the opening...

and snug it up into the corners.

Insert the second card into the right side and do the same thing.

See the 2 cards in there? There should be about a 1/4 space between them. Whip stitch this opening closed.

Lay the rectangle on the table and push the cards to either side. I placed 2 pins up against the ends to hold them in place.

Run a stitch down the middle.

I placed a little dab of hot glue on the back of the felt and then the bow to secure it. You can add or change the embellishments if you'd like.

and here you have it...a cute little needle keep made with old, used up gift cards. (oh my gosh...make sure they're used up or this will be the most expensive needle keep ever).

Isn't she adorable...I think I'll call them ikeeps when I use itunes cards or Victoria's Keeps when the girls use up their Victoria's Secret cards. The name possibilities are endless...

First, have fun shopping to use up all those gift cards and then have fun sewing and using up all the empty cards.
spaceHave a great Tuesday,
~Karen~
